William Clarence Grace was born on November 13, 1925 in Franklin, Texas to Will and Lizzie Grace. He passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 in League City, Texas at the age of 92 years.
He was a 1943 graduate of Franklin High School and attended the University of Texas. Clarence was drafted in 1944 by the U.S. Army. He served in the 99 th Infantry and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany during WWII. He had just turned 19 years of age a month before the battle began. Clarence received 2 Bronze Stars during the war for his great efforts and bravery to conquer the German army.
After the war, he returned to Franklin and was employed with the Franklin Post Office for 33 years before retiring. He continued to work on his farm raising cattle and growing hay. He served as a service officer for the Veterans Land Board and was a post member of the American Legion. Clarence was a long time deacon and treasurer at the Franklin United Methodist Church. He also was on the Methodist committee to build the original Crestview Nursing Home in Bryan. He was very proud of the years that he served on the school board during desegregation and strived to make the school better for everyone. In 2005, he and his wife, Betty moved to Bryan to begin their Golden Years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Ross Grace; father and mother-in-law, Sterling and Ollie Ross; brothers, Wayne, Walter, Tom and Lawrence Grace; Brothers-in-law, Carl Green and Aron Sanders.
He is survived by son, Robert Grace of Columbia, Maryland; daughter and husband, Jill and Rich Specion of Galveston; granddaughter and husband, Kelly and Jeff Thompson of League City; great grandsons, Nick, Justin and Parker Thompson of League City; sisters, Hortence Grace of Hearne, Mary Lou Green and Lizzie Mae Sanders both of Franklin; sister-in-law, Evelyn Grace of Tustin, California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Franklin United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Bald Prairie Cemetery.
