Obituary

Wayne passed from this life to receive his reward May 5, 2024. He was born in Marion,KS the day after the stock market crashed, Oct 30,1929, and endured the life of a farm boy during The Great Depression. He graduated in 1947 from Midway High School in Stark City, MO. After which he attended Southwest Missouri State where he was a member of the Pierce City National Guard, an artillery and tank unit. Wayne was drafted
into the Army in 1950. Before departing for boot camp, he married Virginia Mae Witt on October 22, 1950. On Valentine's day 1951, he would ship out for Japan on his way to the conflict in Korea. He was assigned to a mortar squad and worked alongside forward observers and radio operators on the front line. Wayne would mention often the cold there was like nothing he'd ever experienced. He returned stateside in 1952, then was discharged at Fort Chaffee. After, he moved with Virginia to Stillwater, OK and through the GI bill he was able to attend Oklahoma A&M. A job offer from Shell Oil moved them to Houston, and then later he worked for the City of West University Place for 17 years before his retirement. He and Virginia moved to Franklin, TX in 1991 where he enjoyed raising cattle and horses. They would have the opportunity to celebrate 59 years of
marriage before her passing in 2010. Together they would help establish St Francis of Assissi Catholic Church, and as a testament to his commitment to Virginia, Wayne fully converted after her death. He served as the District Representative for the Lions Club and Commandant of the American Legion.
