Ui Chun
"Hidie" Nelson
Aug 6, 1951 — Oct 22, 2020
Ui Chun "Hidie" Nelson was born August 6, 1951 in Seoul, South Korea to father Yi Il Yong and mother Yi Sun Ok, and passed away surrounded by family members on October 22, 2020 in Springfield Massachusetts at the age of 69 years.
Hidie was raised in Kyongki-do, a province of South Korea on the outskirts of Seoul. She met and fell in love with Steve D. Nelson before marrying and making the move to America, a country she deeply loved. Hidie and Steve settled in California where they raised their children, later residing in Texas, Oklahoma, and finally Connecticut.
Hidie was a woman of faith and principle, and she lived in service to her Heavenly Father, family and all who knew her. She had a laugh that was contagious, was always quick to smile, and never passed up a chance to lend a helping hand. Hidie had an awe-inspiring work ethic. She seldom sat still, only pausing long enough to catch a segment of her favorite conservative news show or soap opera. Her favorite things were holding her grandchildren, playing cards, and taking pictures with her disposable or outdated camera. She was a collector of stamps, coins, angels and rocks. She excelled at making crocheted blankets and putting together puzzles.
Hidie was loved by all who knew her - a good wife, beloved mother and grandmother, and child of God - she will be dearly missed.
Hidie is survived by her husband of 47 years Steve D. Nelson, her children Kelly M. Nelson and wife Tiffany of Burleson, TX, Jessica D. Nelson of Minden, NV, Jeffrey A. Nelson of Oklahoma City, OK, Jennifer A. Nash and husband Troy of Franklin, TX and Leah O. Nelson of Enfield, CT; Grandchildren: Mason G. Nelson, Cailin A. Nelson, Keaton E. Nelson, Micah P. Russell, Elizabeth R. Nelson, Coda S. Nelson, Kennedy J. Russell, Troy S. Nash, McCovey D. Nelson, Bellamy Q. Nelson and Lily A. Nash.
Rosary and prayer vigil services will begin a 6:00 pm with visitation till 8:00 pm, Friday, November 6th, 2020 at McCauley Funeral Home, Franklin, Tx. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am, Saturday November 7th, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Franklin, Tx with a graveside service to immediately follow at Franklin Cemetery.
