Travis T.
Morgan
Aug 21, 1925 — Feb 21, 2022
Travis Morgan passed away peacefully on Monday February 21, 2022 at his home in Franklin, Texas.
Travis was born on August 21, 1925 in Franklin, Texas to Benjamin F. Morgan and Lilly Opal Ross. He attended the Henry Prairie School for many years before graduating from Franklin High School in May of 1943. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the Armed Services in January of 1944. After months of training in various locations, he was sent to Breckenridge, Kentucky where he joined the 75 th Infantry Division for overseas duty. By December 1944, he was shipped out to France and soon after he was moved into the Battle of the Bulge. He was a part of the 81 Milimeter Mortar Squad where he endured 30 days of freezing temperatures confined to a fox hole that was dug into the ground. By the end of January 1945, the Battle of the Bulge ended and he had more faith than ever believing that he would get the chance to come home again. After the war ended, he was assigned to an Ordinance Company for Occupational duty before he was later discharged in April of 1946.
Once Travis returned home from the Army he bought his first 100 acres in Franklin, Texas for forty dollars an acre. He spent his time raising hogs and turkeys, growing his herd of cattle and raising tomatoes, corn and watermelons.
On August 8, 1959 he married the love of his life Alma Ione Morgan of Willow Creek. They were married for 59 years and had their one and only son Michael in December of 1963.
Travis's whole life revolved around his son Michael. There is nothing that he wouldn't do for him to make him happy and make sure all his needs were met and taken care of. In his later years, he enjoyed spending his time at home and gardening; especially growing tomatoes and green peppers for Michael to enjoy. At 90 years old, you could find him in the cattle pen separating calves to take to the sell barn. He was a long time member of the Henry Prairie Baptist Church in Franklin where he served as a Deacon and overseen taking care of the cemetery for many years.
He is preceded in death by his wife Alma Ione Morgan; parents Benjamin Morgan and Lilly Ross; brother, James Franklin Morgan.
Left to cherish his memory is his son Michael T. Morgan of Franklin, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers.
A private service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, Michael would like contributions to be made in his dad's memory to the Henry Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery.
