Obituary

Stephen Mark Lyon III, age 87, went to be with the Lord  in Franklin, Texas, on November 6, 2021.

Steve was born in Pulaski, Virginia on January 29, 1934, to Stephen Mark Lyon Jr. and Marsalena Lyon. His family moved to Columbia, South Carolina when he was a teenager, where he attended Granby High School. He skipped the 11 th grade to go directly to the University of South Carolina where he graduated.

In 1966, Steve became the comptroller of Texas City Refining. One year later, he became a Certified Public Accountant and continued with the company until it was sold in 1988. He was one of two employees kept on for several years to settle the refinery's financial affairs. Steve continued work as an accountant until his death, a span of 54 years.

In 1994, Steve and his wife of 46 years, Shellie, moved to Franklin, Texas, where they lived the good life on Camp Creek Lake, sharing their "paradise" with their family. Steve was active in his community, serving for 10 years with the Franklin Habitat for Humanity. He also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Franklin Food Pantry for over 20 years.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael Lyon, and his stepson, David Jaggers.

He is survived by his wife Shellie, sister Hazel Retherford and husband Larry, son Mark Lyon and wife Anne, daughter Missie Perez and husband Hector, daughter Marcye Bowling and husband Mike, grandson Hayne Perez and wife Jennifer, granddaughter Susanna Lyon, grandson Chris Roten and wife Devon, granddaughter Shannon Nolley, granddaughter Rosanna Brzozowski and husband Garrett, granddaughter Pilar Perez; great-grandsons Aiden Roten, Evan Roten, Owen Roten, Chance Roten Chase Roten, Brady Mescher, Logan Nolley, Parker Lyon Brzozowski, and great-granddaughters Nova Quijano and Hannah Roten, niece Karen Scott, and cousin Nancy Lewis.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 11 o'clock, at the Franklin First United Methodist Church.
