Sam Hale
Morris, Jr.
Apr 15, 1955 — Feb 23, 2021
Sam Hale Morris, Jr. was born on April 15, 1955 to Sam Hale Sr and Katherine Morris in Hearne, Texas. He passed away on February 23, 2021 with family by his side after a year-long battle with cancer.
He was raised the fourth of seven siblings, in a small house on "the hill" as they affectionately called their home. Located on 50 acres, they raised cows, helped their grandfather with his truck farm, and constantly stayed in trouble with their Daddy. The three boys chased each other around with bb guns and at times pocket knives which would get them even more attention from their father.
Sammy played sports as a young boy but settled on football as his favorite sport, leading the Franklin Lions to the playoffs several years as an accomplished running back and lettering all four years of high school. As a teenager he always had a job hauling hay and watermelons, fixing fence and anything he could scrounge up around town to make a few dollars. His Dad called it a having a little jingle in his pocket.
He married Margie in 1985 and lived in Bryan. They would later purchase their "place", 200 acres in Wheelock, running cattle on it and once again hauling hay and fixing fence. He loved the freedom of working their place.
He loved to hunt whitetail deer, hunting all over west Texas and East Texas. Even after he tagged out he enjoyed going out to the stand and just watching wild game. He loved to sit around a campfire and tell stories some of them being tall tales. He watched the stock market daily and loved to talk stocks and stock prices. Sammy and his sisters enjoyed going to the casino and spending time laughing, eating, and winning.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
He leaves 6 siblings to grieve his leaving, Linda (Phil) Suggs of Baytown, Cynthia (Jimmy) Hudson of Baytown, Carol Favors of Wharton, Ronny (Lea Dell) Morris of Franklin, Sid (Sylvia) Morris of Franklin, and Mendy Morris of Franklin. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in New Baden, Texas. A visitation will be held from 12:30 until service time at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
