Obituary

Robert "Bobby" Bertran Archer Jr., passed away on July 15, 2024, in Centerville, TX.  Bobby was born in Houston, TX to Robert "R.B." Archer and Eddie Laura Archer (Newsom) on November 6, 1944.

When Bobby was 3 years old, he became "Bubba" to sister Barbara Jean Archer. The family remained in their childhood home off 610 & Homestead until Bobby and Barbara were adults.

Bobby was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School. Following a brief stint in college, he returned to Houston and by the early 70's he found employment with the Southern Pacific Railroad.  This is where he met crew dispatcher, Kathyrn Neelley and daughter Shawna. The two married in 1975 and welcomed daughter Rhonda before eventually divorcing many years later. Bobby remained an employee of Southern Pacific (UP) until his retirement as a locomotive engineer around 25 years later. After retirement, he spent the remainder of his life on his beloved farm in Marquez, TX.

In 1996, he married his wife Donna Neel Archer and welcomed her children into his life, Brandy Smith and Jerrmey Ramsey.

Bobby's first love was hot rods! He seemed to have a special affection for Chevrolets Corvettes as he owned several over his lifetime. Much of younger years were spent either on a drag strips, or street racing around town. Although he was around horses his entire life, his dad owned a horse racetrack in the 50's, he didn't learn to rope until his mid-twenties when someone talked him into buying a young horse, named Red Cody Glow for $500. Cody proved to not only be a good roping horse but went on to have a successful Hunter Jumper Career. He enjoyed his retirement alongside Bobby in Marquez. Other than his dads racehorse, "Old Bill", Cody was one of Bobbys favorites of the many horses he owned throughout the years. Bobby also had a love for German Shepards, old western movies, football, particularly the Dallas Cowboys, Marty Robbins and the Beach Boys. He was also the best storyteller ever and could recount every detail even about his younger years. Until he moved to Marquez, you could find him every year at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with his Uncle Zean watching the horse shows.

Bobby is proceeded in death by his father, R.B. Archer, mother, Eddie Laura Archer, sister, Barbara Archer and daughter in law, Heather Dorris Ramsey.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Archer, daughters, Rhonda Archer Rhodes (AJ Shunkwiler) and Brandy Smith, and son, Jerrmey Ramsey. His beloved grandchildren, Colton Pegoda (Megan), Jessica Thorn (Jacob), Wade Rhodes, Kilee-Jo Anna Aguirre, Chloe Ramsey, Lacey Shunkwiler, Carter Ramsey, Konor Owens, Emma Ramsey and Korbin Ramsey and great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Riley, Reagan, Ruger and Reed Pegoda, Jesslyn and Hayzlee Johnson, and Jayco Thorn. He is also greatly missed by his faithful companion of many years, Border Collie, Sara Lee.

A service to honor his life will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, 1:30PM at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, TX.
