Phyllis Kay Elliott Batten entered into eternal life on Friday July 14, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Lott, Texas, on December 10, 1945, to Emory Philmore "Sonny" Elliott and Dorothy Mae Reynolds Elliott.
Kay was a 1964 graduate of Franklin High School and attended Sam Houston State University. She married Raymond Charles "Butch" Batten on August 9, 1968 in Madison County, Texas. Kay spent her employment years in the mortgage lending business and ended her career as Vice President at Commercial Bank of Texas. She was a resident of Franklin for 46 years, moving to Nacogdoches for 26 years and then to Bryan for 5 years after the death of her husband, Butch. She then returned to Nacogdoches to live the remainder of her life. Kay was of Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sonny and Dorothy Elliott; her husband, Raymond "Butch" Batten; sister-in-law, Betty Adams, and brothers-in-law, James Sanders, Jerry Miller, and Ralph McKinney.
Kay leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons and daughter-in-law: Chuck Batten of College Station, Eric Batten of Dallas, Brian and Tiffany Batten of Nacogdoches, and honorary daughter, Debbie McMahan and husband Jerry of Lubbock. Aunt Jeanetta "Jo" Reynolds Polston and husband James of Mesquite. Sisters and brother-in-law, Patsy Sanders of Franklin and Judy and Charley Clark of College Station. Grandchildren: Zachery Batten, Tristan Batten, Reed Batten, Emory Batten, and honorary granddaughter, Caitlin Paden and husband T.J.. Nieces and Nephews: Julie Brooks and husband William, Jon Clark, Keith Sanders and wife Lisa, Terry Sanders, Phil Sanders and wife Stephanie. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Herbert and Rita Batten, Bobby Adams, Helen McKinney, Joyce Miller, and Linda Ricketson.She also leaves behind numerous additional nieces and nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
Services will be held on Saturday July 22, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Robertson County Cowboy Church in Franklin. Pastor Jimmy Sanders will officiate. A visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in the Little Mississippi Cemetery near Franklin.
