Norman Mack Bates was born on April 2, 1936 in Calvert, Texas to David and Effie Jo Bishop Bates.  He passed away from this life to eternal life on Saturday, August 10, 2019 in Bryan, TX at the age of 83 years.

Norman married Barbara Jeanette Cobb of Franklin, TX in 1958.  Norman and Jeanette resided in Houston, TX for 35 years before their retirement to New Baden in 2004; Norman was self-employed in construction.  He loved to hunt and fish.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jeanette Bates and Grand Daughter Amanda Bates; Parents, David and Effie Jo Bates; Sister, Martha Templeton and brothers, David Bates and Edward Bates.

He is survived by:

Sons and Daughters-in-law:  Norman Mack Bates, Jr. (Mouchie) and wife Theresa of Spring, David Lee Bates and Fiancé Pamela of Magnolia and Chester Keith Bates and wife Sheila of Humble

Sisters:  Ina Jo Williams of Madisonville and Madlyn Batten of Tabor

Brother- Steve Bates of Blackjack

4 Granchildren: Christopher Allen Bates, Joshua Ryan Bates, Ashley Freitag and Denise Cooper

10 Great Grandchildren: Kaleb Porter Smith, Sydney Brooke Bates, Travis Quinn Freitag, Amanda Christi Freitag, Kennedy Paige Bates, Sierra Grace Freitag, Braden Matthew Cooper, Paxton Christopher Bates, Aria Renae Bates and David James Freitag

Services will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, New Baden.  Burial will follow at the New Baden Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.
