Mattie Evelyn Reagan Bumpurs, age 90, of the community of Seale-Round Prairie, Texas, passed from this earth, surrounded by her three devoted sons, on August 6, 2023. She was born on December 14, 1932 in Bald Prairie, Texas. Eve was the youngest and eighth child of Lewis and Mattie Reagan. Eve met her future husband, Horace Bumpurs and they married on July 22, 1949 in Groesbeck, Texas at the home of Malcom Smith.
Eve enjoyed spending time with her family in the country at their home in Seal-Round Prairie. Eve was a hard worker and was the first to lend a hand when the men were working or feeding cattle. Eve always enjoyed cooking, was an excellent gardener, and was a loyal member of the Centerville Church of Christ. Aunt Eve, as she was known by many, was known for her amazing peach homemade ice cream (better than Blue Bell), love for animals and ability to know exactly what she paid for a loaf of bread in 1954. She had an excellent memory when it came to prices paid for land, feed, or the time it would take to get from her home to any sale barn in any state. She was a tireless worker and an excellent problem solver. She was a good cook, not a gourmet chef but prepared food you could do a day's work on.
Eve was a kind-hearted mother that led with a soft hand. She was a friend and inspiration to many. She was generous with her smile and sense of humor. She imparted the importance of frugality, hard work, and Christianity to her children that they still carry on to this day. She was a devout wife, mother, daughter, and sister. Eve loved the Lord, loved her family, and was loved by many.
Eve was preceded in death by, her parents Lewis and Mattie; husband, Horace and siblings, Robert Louis (Alta Rea), Carl (Geneva), Pauline (Richard), Lucille (Webb), Jim (Olene) and Gladys (Homer).
Survivors include Eve's three sons, Donald Bumpurs, Stacy Bumpurs and L.C. Bumpurs; sister, Lillian Milstead and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held at McCauley Funeral home in Franklin on Wednesday, August 9th from 6-8PM. Funeral services will also be held at McCauley Funeral home on Thursday at 10AM. Burial will follow at the Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery.
