Obituary

Mary Alice Woods was born on October 4, 1929, in Rosebud, Texas to her parents, Hebert Louis Daniel and Vernettie Casey Daniel.  She passed away peacefully, and entered eternal life on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the age of 94 years.

Mary was a graduate of Marlin High School.  She married the love of her life, J.C. Woods on February 1,1948 in Marlin.  They Cherished 65 years of marriage before he preceded in death in 2013.  In 1951, they moved to Calvert, Texas to make their home and raise their two children, Brenda and John. Mary was employed for many years at the Calvert Citizen State Bank where she began as a teller and then promoted to loan officer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Calvert where she and J.C. both were baptized.

Before her retirement, she was very active in her community, teaching Sunday school for many years at First Baptist Church in Calvert and serving a secretary for the church.  She was a member of the Garden Club and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter#311, Franklin. She was also very active at the Calvert Country Club where she loved playing golf and was involved in their golf tournaments.

Mary was also preceded in death by her parents and her 7 siblings.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ron Brown of Dripping Springs; son and daughter-in-law, John C. Woods, III and Sandra Kay Woods of Houston; sister, Jeanette Gistinger of Marlin; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Seales (Michael), Travis Brown (Kristin Ritchie) and John C. Woods, IV (Jana); 3 great grandchildren: Meaghen Seales, Garrett Seales and Adyllen Woods.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Calvert, Texas. A Burial will follow in the Calvert City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 6-8 P.M.  at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, Texas.
