Mary Frances Nunley Stavinoha of Cypress, Texas passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Village of Gleannloch Farms in Spring, Texas at the age of 92 years.
Mary was born on June 9, 1925 in Hearne, Texas. She was a 1942 graduate of Temple High School. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Edward A. Stavinoha, whom she married on October 19, 1944. They were happily married for 49 years. She attended Temple Junior College, Oklahoma State University and graduated from Tulsa University in 1956 with a degree in education.
She taught in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Huntsville, Alabama and Alvin, Texas. Mary was a master math teacher who not only inspired her students, but developed life-long relationships with them. She retired as a 6th grade math teacher of 22 years form Alvin ISD in 1984. Mary continued her love of teaching by substitute teaching at Franklin ISD after moving to Camp Creek Lake.
Mary is survived by her son, Edward L.(Sam) Stavinoha and wife Donna; grandson, Reid Stavinoha and wife Lalena; granddaughter, Brandi Wax and husband Brandon. She was blessed with 7 great- grandchildren: Kayla, Karly and Graydon Stavinoh and Caroline, Sydney, Tara and Mary Wax.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Franklin United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeff Gage of Texarkana, a college roommate of her grandson, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklin EMS or to the Franklin United Methodist Church.
