Margaret Helen
Smithey
Nov 18, 1935 — Sep 27, 2021
Margaret Helen Wooldridge Smithey
Margaret was born in Waco, Texas on November 18, 1935 to Maurine Hall Wooldridge and George Wooldridge. She joined Jesus in heaven the morning of September 27, 2021. Margaret attended Baylor University and met and married Morris Smithey at Memorial Baptist Church, where she was organist. She continued to play piano and organ at the various churches where Morris served as pastor over the years.
Her pride and joy was their son, David Smithey, born in February 1958, in Waco. They eventually lived in Houston and San Marcos. Margaret worked in banking for most of her life, from First City through retirement from Wells Fargo, then at Educator's Credit Union in Waco, where she retired again in 2017.
Margaret loved the Lord and was an active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and loved every member of her Boundless Love Sunday School class there. She loved reading her Bible or Christian books, doing Sudoku, cross stitch or crafts and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She kept her sweet disposition and smile to the very end. Everyone who met her talks about how sweet she was.
After retirement, she moved to Bryan, TX and eventually Franklin, TX, where she lived with David and his wife. She enjoyed traveling with them, especially to see the grandkids in Tennessee.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, by her husband, Morris Smithey, and dear friend and sister-in-law, Jessie Lou Wooldridge, sister-in-law Johnnie Wooldridge, and brother-in-law, Doug Rowlett. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Shervonne Smithey, her siblings and their spouses: Mary and Cliff O'Neal of Wichita Falls, George Harold Wooldridge, of Lewisville, and Evelyn Rowlett. She also leaves behind her granddaughters and their husbands: Heather and Michael Jones of Spring Hill, TN and Hannah and Timmy Jones, of Lewisburg, TN. She treasured her Tennessee great-grandchildren, Nolan, Elliott and Audrey plus Elena and her sibling to be born in January. She also enjoyed her step-great-grandchildren in Texas: Skyler, Bailey, Jaylee, Beau and Parker.
We especially want to thank all of her special nurses, aides and other care givers with Texas Home Health and Hospice. All of you enabled her to stay at home and live a safe, happy life to the end.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery 6623 South Interstate 35 Robinson, Texas 76706. Craig Yates will officiate.
