Obituary

Marcela "Chela" Torres was born to Juan and Paulina Torres on January 30, 1921. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin, Texas.

She grew up working on the family farm with her parents and siblings. She was a strong, proud, intelligent, and hardworking woman. As a young lady, she helped run the family cafe in Calvert, Texas as well as helped with the finances. Later in life, she worked as a housekeeper in Franklin where she met many and she grew the trust and admiration of many in town.

Marcela was a member of the Catholic Church in Franklin and lived a long and faith filled life. She was devoted to serving GOD and others. She was a wonderful godmother who planted seeds of faith and devotion into the hearts of her godchildren.

Though she never married, or had a family of her own, Chela had a mother's heart. She was a devoted aunt, great aunt, and great great aunt. She was very involved in rearing and loving multiple generations of nieces and nephews throughout the years. She still called her nieces and nephews "baby" even though we are all adults. She loved children and loved spoiling them any chance she could.

Marcela had many great attributes like cooking for the family and made sure to keep everyone's favorite foods were prepared when they stopped by for a visit.  Marcela was a teacher at heart, she believed that everyone needed to learn the basics in life, cooking, cleaning, encouraged all the kids to get an education and never stop believing in your dreams

She was talented in a multitude of areas. She played the guitar, she sewed clothing, made quilts and created beautiful, crocheted pieces for her loved ones. She passed down her skills and knowledge of crocheting, sewing, embroidery and cooking to all who would listen. She was patient even with the most stubborn ones.  Even when arthritis had weakened her hands, she still made an effort to create handmade items for family members. She wanted to make sure that everyone knew all her efforts came from her heart.

Chela had a feisty spirit and a sharp mind until the very end of her life. She loved to share stories from the past and could recall events with vivid clarity. It was always a joy to listen to her share her memories. Chela was an example of how to endure life's challenges with strength, grace, and courage.

As Chela has reunited with her beloved parents and siblings at long last. She leaves behind family from all over Texas and California who love and miss her dearly.
