Mackie Lee McCullough, 91, of Ridge, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, at his home. He was born on August 27, 1933, in Ridge, Texas, Robertson County, to Hager Howard and Delzie Marie McCullough.
A lifelong resident of Ridge, Mackie Lee graduated from Franklin High School and went on to further his education and football career at the University of Houston, Henderson County Junior College, and East Texas State College where he played in major college bowls. During college he also rode bulls under the pseudo-name T. Wilson.
On June 26, 1954, Mackie Lee married the love of his life, Mable Mae Baldwin, in Oletha, Texas. Together they built a strong family with 6 children rooted in love, commitment, and community.
As a dedicated farmer, rancher and self-employed businessman, he raised cattle, hogs, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, hay, oats, rye, watermelons, peas, corn, and tomatoes. He also hauled exotic animals and livestock; operated day and season deer hunting operations and worked at multiple sale barns. He was a master of many games, including 42, dominoes, and spades. He devoted his life to hard work, family, and faith. Mackie Lee will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Mackie Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Hager and Delzie McCullough, and his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Vicky McCullough.
Mackie Lee is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mable Mae McCullough of Ridge, Tx; his children and spouses: Jimmie McCullough and Evette Correa of Wheelock, Tx, Sherry and James Chandler of Wheelock, Tx, Patty and Bill Baker of Hockley, Tx, Ricky and Pam McCullough of Ridge, Tx, and Julie and Billy Atomanczyk of Easterly, Tx.
He was blessed with 15 grandchildren and their spouses: Christie and Robert Smitherman, Abby and Chris Schoeneman, Adam and Desiree McCullough, Andrew and Kassie Chandler, Amanda and Blake McDaniel, Jonathan and Lindsay Chandler, Lauren McCullough, Kathleen McCullough and Adam Lindsay, Patrick and Claire McCullough, Tara McCullough, Callie and Jordan Weikert, Kadie McCullough, Blane McCullough, Jake Atomanczyk, and Josh Atomanczyk.
He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren: Tanner, Dylan, Maggie, and Karaline Smitherman; Reece, Ridge, and Ryla Schoeneman; Katelyn and Blakelyn McCullough; Adelyn and Maelyn Bauer; Chandler, Blakely, and Colby McDaniel; Brylee and Avery Chandler; Kammi Chandler; Judson Weikert; and Margot McCullough.
Visitation is Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, Tx. Funeral services are Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cowboy Church in Franklin, Tx. Interment will follow at Holly Cemetery in Ridge, Tx.
