Obituary

Lucile Mabel Smith

"Butterbean"

My beloved mother went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2022. She fought hard for a long time with heart and kidney problems. She will greatly be missed by the many people that have gotten to know her through the many years at Eckerd Drugs, Texas A&M or the different crafting groups she was a part of.

Mom was born to Willie Wayborn and Katie Inez Moorehead on December 9, 1952. She was the youngest of 10 children, having 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She graduated from Hearne High School in May of 1972. She started working at Eckerd Drug in the Cosmetic department and worked her way to being manager of the Eckerd's store in Bryan. She might have had the title of manager, but she was way more of a mother to so many of the employees over the 21 years. So much so, those relationships carried on long after she retired from Eckerd's. After Eckerd's, she went to work for Texas A&M food service where she worked for another 10 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed several different crafts, but her passion was quilting. Her favorite time was to go into her sewing building. She would make things for family members and friends that were made from fabric but put together with all her love. She was very gifted and talented.

Mom met dad at the Lakeview club. They bumped into each other on the dance floor and the rest was history. They lived in Bryan Texas for over 13 years and then moved to just outside of Calvert Texas. They worked together to provide for their children, and over the years with a lot of blood, sweat and tears made it a home. They took a lot of pride in the little piece of land.

Mom was preceded in death by her father (Will), mother (Kitty Inez), son (Timothy), 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years Cecil Laurence Smith of Calvert, her sons, Christopher Paul Smith of Franklin, Matthew Lawrence Smith and Isiah Schillers of Calvert, Granddaughter Samantha Leigh Smith of Franklin, Sisters Helen Smith and Ladel Nelson, and multiple nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.
