Obituary

Larry Wayne Estes, 76, of Kurten, Texas, passed away after a life marked by faith, service, and a love of the outdoors. Raised in Gainesville, Texas, he developed lifelong passions for hunting, fishing, storytelling, and BBQ. He worked as an electrician and was a journeyman with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Chapter 20 out of Dallas, contributing to projects across the country, including Reunion Tower in Dallas and the Motorola headquarters in Austin. He later settled in Bryan, where he built a life with his wife, Melanie. Larry served faithfully at Zion Church of Kurten and was known for his generosity, humor, and storytelling. He cherished his role as "LaLa" to his nephew, John Morris Moore, and great-niece, Laynie Williams. He will be deeply missed. His family finds comfort in their faith and the hope of seeing him again.

Larry is survived by his wife, Melanie Estes, of Kurten; son, Stephen Estes, and daughter in law, Mary, of Aubrey; brother, Don Estes, and wife, Jeanie, of Gainesville; sister, Bev Massey, and husband, Cliff, of Abilene; sister, Shirley Montgomery, and husband, Ronnie, of Whitesboro; brother, Randy Estes, and wife, Colleen, of Freeport; brother in law, Mark Record, and wife, Alison, of Hill Top Lakes; sister in law, Amy Saylak, of Bryan; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lois Estes.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at Zion Church of Kurten.
