Johnnie Liere, 82 passed away July 16, 2011 in Franklin, Tx. Services will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Addicks Bear Creek Cemetery in Addicks, near Houston. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Johnnie was born on August 2, 1928 in Houston, TX to Carl and Eva Schmidt Liere. He grew up on his parents' dairy farm in the Thompson Community area near Houston. He attended the Cy-Fair Schools and graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 1947. He then worked with his dad, Carl, and brother, Carl Jr., in the family dairy and rice farms. He met Joyce Engelke during her senior year of high school. They dated, attending church socials in Navasota and were married on August 12, 1950.
Johnnie and Joyce dairy farmed in Cypress-Fairbanks until 1974. He and his wife then moved the dairy to Franklin, Tx. and he was joined in the business by his son, David. Together, they grew the business, Liere Dairy, and were later joined by grandsons, Daniel Liere in 2003, and Douglas Liere in 2005.
Johnnie took great pride in the 4th generation Dairy Farm and enjoyed working daily with his son and grandsons. It pleased him greatly to have his grandsons continue on in the work with him and David. Some of his favorite times were spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren riding on his golf cart around the farm.
Johnnie was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church, past Board of Director of the Harris County Farm Bureau, past Board of Director of the Milk Producers Credit Union, and a member of the Franklin Lions Club. One of his proudest moments was receiving the Lone Star Lions Eye Bank- Shepherd Fellowship Award for outstanding service to sight restoration in 2009 from the Lions Club. He enjoyed the fellowship of his friends in the Lions Club and going to the New Baden Jamborees. He also enjoyed family reunions and holiday get-togethers.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife of 56 yrs, Joyce Engelke Liere, and brother, Carl Liere, Jr.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Liere of Franklin; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Jim Lambeth of Woodbury, Minn.; grandchildren and spouses,Denise and Brady Barlow of Cy-Fair, TX, Daniel and Tonya Liere of Frankin, Douglas and Brandi Liere of Franklin, Kyle Lambeth, Clint Lambeth and Brittany Lambeth all of Woodbury, Minn., great-grandchildren, Elise Barlow, Rhett Barlow, Addison Barlow, Tyler Liere, Logan Liere, Madison Liere, and Mackenzie Lambeth.
The family appreciates all the help and care given by the Franklin Nursing Home and staff and Hospice during his difficult time.
