Jerry D. Holmes, age 74, of Franklin, TX, passed away at Brazos Valley Hospice In Care in Bryan, TX, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Weatherford, TX on July 9, 1941, to Marvin Jordan Holmes and Pat Holmes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Cathie L. Holmes; his mother, Pat Holmes; his father in law, Sam J. Lakovich; one daughter, Elizabeth 'Lyn' Holmes Scott and son-in-law, Vernon L. Scott; one son, Matthew J. Holmes and daughter-in-law, Natalie K. Holmes; grandson Nathan Brant Scott and grand daughter-in-law, Jenna L. Scott; granddaughter Emma C. Holmes and grandson, Ethan J. Holmes. Preceded in death by his father, Marvin J. Holmes, mother-in-law, Dorothy Lakovich, grandparents James Wilson Holmes & Lily Lee Paschal Holmes and Carl William Tackett & Rosa Jane Nicholson Tackett and numerous aunts and uncles.
Jerry was a high school graduate of Weatherford High School in 1959 and obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas in 1966. Upon graduation, Jerry went to work for the USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service as County Executive Director first in Clay County and then in Robertson County and remained there for over 35 years. Afterwards, he worked for Project Unity in Bryan, TX for yet another 10 years. Jerry was a people person and loved to have a good conversation and reminisce about his children and their various activities during their growing up years. He was active in the Franklin Lions Club and the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department as well as coaching his son's little league baseball teams. He was a wonderful husband and father.
Visitation will be held from 6PM to 8PM on Wednesday, July22nd at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.
Services will be held at McCauley Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 23rd at 10:30AM with internment at New Baden Cemetery. Reception following for family and close friends at the New Baden Baptist Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brazos Valley Hospice, the American Cancer Association or any Franklin ISD Scholarship Fund.
