Obituary

Gladys Ellen Meadors Cargill Puckett entered eternal life peacefully on the evening of Sunday, January 19, 2025, with family by her side at the age of 99 years.  She was born in New Baden, Texas, on July 27, 1925, to parents, George Levi Meadors and Martha "Mattie" Ellen Day Meadors.

Gladys was employed with CSA Limited, Inc. in Houston, Texas for 34 years before her retirement in 1995.  She moved back to New Baden in 2003 and lived there until her death.  She was of the Christian faith.

Gladys was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister.  She loved her family dearly and was always attentive to their needs and spending time with her family was something that she prioritized in her life. Gladys was the matriarch of her family and they loved her dearly in return.  In her younger years, Gladys could dress to the T fashionably and enjoyed going to many places while living in Houston but when she moved back home, she became a country girl again living the country life to the fullest. She loved working in her yard and enjoyed sitting on her porch and admiring the flowers that she had planted.  Although she never learned to swim, it never stopped her from enjoying fishing in the waters of Galveston.  Gladys also enjoyed reading and always had a book in hand to read before her eyesight failed and she no longer could.  She was as strong as she was independent and was very proud of the fact she was able to buy and pay for her home in Houston herself.

Her kind and loving spirit will always be remembered, and her cherished memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and will never be forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George Levi and Mattie Meadors, sons, Paul Cargill and Jack Cargill, brothers, Melvin Meadors, Ray Meadors, Ellis Meadors, Eugene Meadors, and her sisters, Helen Acuff and Mildred Boyd.

Gladys is survived by her loving family: daughter, Wanda Fay Cargill Watkins Marlow of New Baden, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christine Puckett of San Antonio, sisters and brother-in-law, Lucille Dittmar of Spring Branch and Melba and A.Z. Boyd of Seagoville, Grandchildren, Paul and Carla Cargill of Houston, Kenneth and Tina Cargill of Jonestown, Audrey Plazinich of Houston, Donna Sue Baker of Cedar Creek, Robert and Donna Burgett of Marlin, Nicole and Jason Goin of Houston, Thomas Watkins of Corsicana, Nathan Cargill of Baytown, Chad and Elizabeth Cargill of San Benito, Kelly and Chris Isenberger of Houston, Khristopher Puckett and Dr. Jessie Barrie of Albuquerque, NM, Salvador and Mary Contreras, III of Fredericksburg, VA,  Andrew Contreras of Blanco, and Mathew Contreras of Pordenone Italy.  She was also blessed to be survived by many great and great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin, Texas.  A visitation with family will take place from 12:00 P.M. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. A burial will follow services where she will be laid to rest in Camp Creek Cemetery in New Baden, Texas.
