On January 5, 2022 Esther Rose Varvel was called home to be with the Lord. She was born December 25, 1935 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to her parents Nellie Elizabeth Burchell and Lawrence Aubrey Burchell.
Esther was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Fellowship Church of Easterly. Esther loved to sing praises to the Lord, play the piano, paint, crochet and work in her yard.
Esther lived in the small community of Ridge, Texas, since 1965. She worked for GTE for 25 years as a telephone operator/supervisor in the Bryan office. She was married to the love of her life, Kenneth Harrison Varvel, for 55 years until she lost him to cancer in December of 2007. They loved to travel especially in the western United States where she got a lot of her inspirations for one of her hobbies which was painting. She would take a blank canvas and turn it into lasting memories.
Esther was preceded in death by her infant sister due to a heart defect, her dad Lawrence Burchell, mother Nellie Burchell, husband Kenneth Varvel and step grandson David Driggers
Esther is survived by her 3 children, Lavonne Johnson and son in law Bobby Johnson of Ridge, Kenneth Varvel Jr. and daughter in law Kerri Varvel of Thornton, Joanna Tilson and son in law Wade Tilson of Easterly
9 Grandchildren, Robert and Stacy Johnson, April Michelle Brewster, Kayla Varvel, Bryan Driggers, Kenneth Dwayne Varvel, Harlee, Christian and Cody Tilson
13 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Holly Cemetery in Ridge, Texas. Bobby Johnson will officiate. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at McCauley Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. If you are immune compromised, we kindly ask that you wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Traditions Hospice and the Alzheimer's/Dementia Association.
