Ervin Wilburn
Hughes
Oct 19, 1934 — May 29, 2018
Wilburn Hughes passed away Friday night, May 25, 2018. He was laid to rest Monday, May 28, 2018 at Judson Cemetery.
The following was written by his wife, Clydie Hughes:
Ervin Wilburn Hughes was born on October 19, 1934 at home in Anderson County Texas on the Trinity River Bottom. His parents were Isaac and Francis Hughes. He is known to all of us as Papa.
In Proverbs it says "A man of understanding has a quiet spirit."
Papa was a large man in statute who walked through this world softly with a quite spirit but with a large heart. He was a gentle man who knew no strangers.
His heart was full of love and he freely gave his love without asking anything in return. Not having a lot in the way of material things did not matter to Papa, he was content and happy with what was given to him in this life. He knew the important things at mattered in life and that was family, friends, and especially his grandkids whom he doted on.
He was always there for anyone who needed him, he loved to be needed, always wanting to be included. He was a peaceful man, listening to others without condemnation or giving his opinion, rather only his love.
Judging by todays standards one may say he didn't make his mark in this world, as everything is about what we have, what we do, who we are. Papa was given a loving spirit from God to share with all f us, he was most fortunate of all and we were blessed to have shared in his love.
Now each one of us must release his hand of the one we love into the hand of the one we have not seen. It is okay for us to weep, but there is no need for us to despair. He had pain and sorrow here, but he will have one there. He struggled here, but he will not struggle there.
We might wonder why our loved ones leave us, but Papa doesn't. He understands that he is at this very moment in the presence of all the loved ones that have gone on before him. He is at peace in the presence of God, Ervin Wilburn Hughes, Papa, was a faithful Christian, who loved the Lord, I will miss his quite spirit and beautiful singing of gospel hymns, being my friend and love one for 40 years. A big man, A good ole boy as he has been called, with big tender heart full of love, giving it so freely and asking nothing in return but our love.
Some of his favorite songs were "This world is not my home, I'm just traveling through, and Gone Home."
This is his song: All of my friends that I loved yesterday are gone home. They've joined the heavenly fold, they are walking the streets of pure Gold. They left one by one as their Work here was done. Gone Home, Gone Home.
This world was not my home, I'm gone home, my work here is done.
Thank you, Lord, for letting Papa travel through this world with us, and sharing what is really important in life. We have been blessed.
