Edna Jo Starkey McNutt, 80, born June 17, 1930 in New Baden, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, June 12, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan, Texas as a result of a stroke. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 6-8 pm at McCauley Funeral Home, Franklin, Texas. A memorial service is set for Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 2 pm at First Baptist Church, Franklin, Texas with Pastor Jim Manning officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Edna Jo was born to the Ferman and Vena (Smith) Starkey. She spent her life in Franklin and Houston. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1947 and went on to work for the City of Houston for 30 years. In 1977, she was named the First Manager of the Houston Civic Center, a position she loved and retired from in 1979.
After retirement, Edna Jo returned to Franklin were she was active within the community. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Franklin where she taught and attended Sunday school for many years. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Franklin Texas, Past Secretary/Treasurer of the New Baden/Camp Creek Lion's Club, Past President of the Franklin Garden Club, Past President of the Franklin Woman's Reading Club and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Franklin Lions Club.
Edna Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joe Y. McNutt, her parents, Ferman and Vena (Smith) Starkey, and brother, Ferman Forrest (Steve) Starkey.
Edna Jo is survived by her loving daughter, Sandy Hargraves of College Station, Texas; grandson, Cameron Hargraves and wife, Natalie, of Sunnyvale, Calif.; great-grandsons, Michael Hargraves of Bremond, Texas and Nathan and Shane Hargraves of Sunnyvale, Calif.; sister & brother in law, Darlene (Dean) and D.A. Bolton of Franklin, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law Ron and Thuy-Minh Starkey, Ken and Xi Starkey, all of Houston, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church in Franklin, Texas.
The family wishes to thank Dr. David L. Hackethorn, Scott & White, College Station, Texas for his tender care, as well as the nurses & aides of St. Joseph's Hospital 4th Floor & Hospice Brazos Valley.
