Doris Jewel
Blair
Jun 22, 1926 — May 10, 2022
Doris Jewel Blair, age 95, of Franklin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
Doris was born June 22, 1926, to James William and Jimmie Alma Merryman in New Baden, Texas, and had three sisters and three brothers. She grew up in Robertson County, attending a one-room schoolhouse during elementary and middle school.
Doris married Thomas Elijah (Tom) Blair in Franklin, Texas on November 10, 1942, and had four daughters, Bonnie White, Jeannie Koons, Donna Rowell, and Gilda John. She and Tom moved to Houston, Texas, then later to Longview for several years, and finally back to Franklin in 1979. Doris retired as an inspector from Continental Can Company in Longview after 30 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.
Doris loved her children, grandchildren, and entire extended family. She enjoyed dominoes, reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, and quilting. A wiz at counting dots, she could predict who would win a domino hand in three moves. An accomplished cook, she could prepare a delicious southern meal for guests with little notice. Her homemade biscuits were rivaled by none. A learned farm girl, she could tend chickens, feed a calf, or harvest crops
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Tom Blair, mother and father James and Jimmie Merryman, siblings James, William, Verda Mae, Milton, Alfred (Jack), Marshall, and Thelma Merryman, two daughters Gilda and Donna, and grandson Denton Rowell.
She is survived by her sister Billie Jo Sweatt, two daughters Bonnie (and Wayne White) and Jeannie (and Dave Koons), 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are at McCauley Funeral Home, Franklin, Texas. Friday, May 13, 2022. Family visitation will be at Noon with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Tre' John and Charlie DeMarco. Graveside services to follow at Camp Creek Cemetery, New Baden Texas.
