Obituary

Donald Lewis Simpson was born on April 5, 1933 in Elkhart, Texas to parents, Jasper R. and Sarah Estelle Benton Simpson.  He went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in Bryan, Texas at the age of 88 years.

Lewis was a graduate of Brazosport High School. He attended Alvin Community College and The University of Houston. Lewis married his childhood sweetheart, Betty JoAnn Ainsworth on April 11, 1952 in Vinton, Louisiana. Before his retirement, Lewis owned and operated Simpson Construction Co.  After his retirement, he and his wife, Betty, made their home in Franklin.  He was a member of the Franklin Church of Christ and the Hearne Lions Club.  He also served as Past District Governor for district 2-S5.  Lewis had been a resident of Franklin for the past twenty-seven years.

Lewis led by example: he worked hard all of his life to provide for his family; he was a good Christian and believed in service to others. He was a friend to all and appreciated good conversation and a good cup of coffee.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.R. and Estelle Simpson, his wife, Betty JoAnn Simpson and two brothers, Wade and Darwin Simpson

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Garrick Garza of College Station and Gwen and Bill Rottmund of Kingwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Shelly Simpson of Brazoria and Ronnie and Suzanne Simpson of Ft. Worth; Sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Edwin Seidler of Elkhart; brothers and sister-in-law, Bruce and Cheryl Simpson of Tomball and Gary Simpson of Waco; 6 Grandchildren: Gabrielle Garza, Connor Garza, Candice Ratledge, Mitchell Simpson, Kassie Simpson and Mason Noto.  He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.  Carl Wylie will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas Lions Camp, 4100 San Antonio Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028.
