Obituary

Clara Eyvone Patrick Horan passed on to her heavenly home on February 5, 2026. She was a loving and giving person. The oldest of six, she helped care for her younger siblings after they were orphaned when she was age twelve. After graduating high school in Sweetwater, she worked her way through Texas Women's University. She used her Library Science degree in her over thirty-year career at Hearne ISD where she was librarian at elementary, junior high, and high school, and also at Gause and Mumford schools. Life was not without hardships, but she was always looking out for those she loved.

Her family and friends remember her making cakes and cookies for every birthday, pies for Thanksgiving, and chocolate covered cherries and fudge for Christmas. Grandma could be counted on to show up for their many activities. Her home is remembered as being full of warmth and love. She embroidered baby quilts for every grandchild and great grandchild, as well as for a select few special friends. Many of us think of her each night as we lay our heads on embroidered pillowcases.

Eyvone enjoyed traveling with Texas Country Reporter for a number of years. In retirement she traveled with her children and grandchildren whether it was a road trip to Savannah, a flight to Colorado, many Sweetwater Class of '58 reunions, and numerous trips tent camping around Texas, with Big Bend National Park a favorite.

Eyvone was preceded in death by her life love Sherman Horan, her parents Daniel and Eva Gertrude Patrick, her sisters Ruby Patrick and Glenda Alexander, brother-in-law Steve Alexander, brothers Toby Patrick and Jerry Patrick, and son in law David Smithey. She is survived by her brother Charles Patrick and wife Lynn, daughters, son, and son in law: Shervonne Smithey, Sheryl and Cliff Reed, and Garlan Horan, as well as grandchildren Jennifer, Dan (Jennifer), Stephanie (Josh), Mark, and Rachel, plus many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
