Charles Edward "Chuck" Schmeichel , 75, of New Baden went to his heavenly home on Sunday November 6, 2022. He was born on May 22, 1947 to his parents, Leo Alfred and Anne Louise Martens Schmeichel in Minot, North Dakota.
Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Airforce during the Vietnam War. After his service, he was employed with Hughes Tool in Houston and later Babcock and Wilcox in Bryan as a machinist before his retirement. He married the love of his life, Barbara Fay Meadors on January 19, 1970. He made his home in Franklin for the past 43 years and was of the Baptist faith. Chuck was a member of the American Legion.
Chuck had a unique way about him. His structured character made him a little rough around the edges but loving at the same time. He loved his family dearly and was always busy taking care of them in one way or another. He also loved his companion dog, Duke. Chuck will be sorely missed by his family and all the lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Anne Schmeichel; wife, Barbara; son, Randy; grandson, Ben and sister, Pauleen.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and Eric Horton of Denton; sister-in-law, June Tackett of New Baden; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Meadors of New Baden; Grandchildren: Daulton Horton and wife Darrian, Devin Horton, Victoria Horton, Randal Stone, Matthew Stone and wife Michelle, and Wyndi Grubbe and husband Ed. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial will follow in the Camp Creek Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday from 1:30 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
