Obituary

Catherine (Cathy) Reagan Toups

Catherine Reagan Toups was born September 3, 1942, at her family home in Bald Prairie, Texas, to Robert Louis and Alta Rea (Turner) Reagan. She passed from this life on August 24, 2023, in Bryan, Texas.

She was predeceased by her husband Michael Toups, her parents and her two brothers, Louie Reagan and Steve Reagan. She is survived by sons Jeff Varvel (Kim) and Mark Varvel (Lisa), five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, her brother Jimmy Reagan and sisters, Glenda Reagan Bonner and Nina Reagan Platt, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts. She leaves behind a host of friends also who will miss her dearly.

Cathy was a very proud citizen of Robertson County her entire life and served in many capacities serving her county, her city of Hearne, her state and her country. She held a multitude of careers and titles during her eighty years. Some of her jobs included being an enumerator with the US Census Bureau, gas station attendant, short order cook, emergency room attendant at the old Hearne Hospital, 911 switchboard operator, car salesman, long/short haul hotshot driver, wrecker driver, owner of the Longbranch saloon as well as Cathy T's bar, restaurant owner in downtown Hearne, landlord, ticket writer for livestock auction, cattle brand inspector, pork inspector at port of Galveston. There are probably many more titles she had that only she could remember.

Her most cherished occupation was that of NASDA employee. She worked with NASDA for forty years, only recently retiring when her health would no longer permit her to carry out her duties as she felt needed to be done. She cherished the friendships and association She made during her long career. She thoroughly enjoyed the data collection she did and prided herself in her team's ability to secure the information she was assigned receiving many awards during her service.

She was also generous with her time by volunteering on various committees. She served on City of Hearne Planning and Zoning for many years. She was very active in Robertson County Republican women. She was an active member of the Bald Prairie Cemetery Association, serving as secretary/treasurer.

Cathy had a very good work ethic. Her motto was that she would arrive thirty minutes before any meeting and if anyone else wasn't there 15 minutes early they were late. But she always took time to enjoy life to its fullest and enjoyed laughing and telling stories to anyone who would listen. There were no strangers in her world and she could strike up a conversation with anyone. She thoroughly enjoyed being with her friends for coffee or eating out. One of the greatest joys of her life was gambling, especially in Shreveport.

Almost anyone who knew Cathy, could attest to her "almost artificially intelligent generated handwriting" that was as bold and outstanding as she was. Anyone who was privileged to eat her cooking could attest that she should have had her on cooking show on Food Network.

When Cathy drew her last breath upon this Earth, the world lost a multi-talented, one of a kind, generous woman. She will be missed by many.

A Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 10:45 A.M. at the Pridgeon Community Center in Franklin, Texas. Burial will follow in the Bald Prairie Cemetery.
