Betty Sue Smith passed from this earth with her children, Allen and Linda, by her side on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in Franklin, Texas at the age of 83 years. She was born on August 23, 1939 in Normangee, Texas to her parents, James Lee Kyle and Nola Mae Hensarling Kyle.

Betty was a graduate of Normangee High School excelling academically. She married the love of her life, William "Bill" Smith in Houston, Texas. Betty was employed in Houston for Humble Oil, Gulf Oil, and then Tenneco Aviation for 20 years as operations manager and retiring as assistant to the Director of Aviation. Bill and Betty enjoyed traveling the world with their children while Bill was employed with the airlines. She was a resident of Houston most of her life and recently moved back to her childhood home of Normangee, Texas. Betty was of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lee and Nola Mae Kyle; her husband, William Allen Smith, Sr. and her two brothers, James Kyle and Doug Kyle.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, children, William Allen Smith, Jr. and wife Darla of Mena, Arkansas and Linda Eschenfelder of Normangee; brother, Joe Kyle of Nashville, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Melanie Parnell, Jennifer Davidson, Lindsay Davidson and Willie Alfred "AL" Eschenfelder IV; her great grandchild, Amos Grizzly Rivers; brother-in-law, Russell Chase of Trinity and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was adored by all who met her and knew her. She will be sorely missed.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at the Hopewell Cemetery in Normangee. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 5-8 P.M. at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, Texas.
